Cattle drive - Ready to go…
According to the motto: Coming in and liven up! Scented meadows, ringing cowbells, warm sunbeams on our skin… This sounds like a really lovely summer in the mountains, which advances with great strides…
And we are waiting only for YOU! <3
Our lovely cows have already done the beginning and settled down on the alps – so summer can start. But do you know the history and background behind the traditions of the cattle drive?
Tuesday, 3 pm afternoon, Mid of June. Our cows are enjoying their fenced run area at our farm, when the cattle transporter arrives. Here we go – all cows need to get collected and prepared for the transport into their new home for the next months.
Therefore, a lot of strong men and of course women are necessary: Daddy, Benjamin, Julia and Mummy are involved and responsible for a smooth procedure without losing a cattle or even worse, letting it choosing its own way ☺ a small video at the end of our blog gives you some impressions about this challenging task…
The tradition of cattle drive is already more than hundred years old, but has not loosen importance. Do you know, that more than one fifth of the overall area in Austria are alps? Without our lovely cows all these areas would grow wild.
Furthermore, also the alpine huts and hospitality providers benefit from the visit of our cows and can offer us fresh milk, butter and traditional “Alp-cheese” – the best way to vitalize after a long hiking day in the beautiful mountains of the Paznaun valley, or? ☺ This is the way to enjoy the alpine summer with all its facets…
But in autumn, the time at the Alps comes to an end for our cattle – Mid of September they are going to head home again and we will celebrate the ceremonial driving down from the mountain pastures into the valley with them ☺
